History Of The Church

                The Ascension Church, Bengaluru is nestled in the midst of delicious fruit-bearing and beautiful flowering trees, in St. May’s Church, Maruthi Seva Nagar. Even before the Independence of our country in 1947, fifteen acres of land was purchased by the late Archbishop Thomas Pothacamury with the aim of creating a strong Catholic presence – with a church and catholic institutions. Subsequently many institutions – national, regional and diocesan, cropped up catering the many needs of the Catholic Christian community. The Ascension Church as a parish was erected in 1968, and Fr. Joachim D’souza was installed as the first Parish Priest.

  3. 1982-1989:   Late Rev.Fr.Raymond D’Souza
  4. 1989-1995:   Late Rev.Fr.Francis Martin
  5. 1995-1999:   Late Rev.Fr.J.S.Da’costa
  6. 1999-2003:   Late Rev.Fr.Paul Kinatukara
  7. 2003-2009:  Late Msgr T.S.Amruthraj
  8. 2009-2015:  Late Rev.Fr.I.Joseph
  9. 2015-2017:   Late Rev.Fr.Joseph Abraham
  10. 2017-2019:  Rev.Fr.John Abraham(Parochial Administrator)
  11. From June-2019:          The present Parish Priest Rev. Fr.John Rose took charge of the Parish. 

  • The Ascension Parish is surrounded by an array of national, regional and diocesan institutions. On the one hand, adjacent to the church, we have the National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC), St. Mary’s Orphanage and Maria Niketan Schools, and on the other, within the campus we have the office of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), Karnataka Regional Organization for Social Service (KROSS) and the diocesan minor seminary – Bhakti Bhavan.

 

  • The Ascension parish is a well – organized parish with a very vibrant Catholic community, and for the ease of pastoral administration it is divided into seven zones. In the year 2018, the parish celebrated its golden jubilee.
